THE PEARL's deep channel design supports grip and ballhandling for rebounders and playmakers. It is fitted with our Kingstep microfiber leather cover that uses sweat as grip enhancer. If you watch for example Lebron James closely on the court, you can see how he often rubs his hands on his jersey to moisture his palms before plays and free throws. Despite using microfiber leather and not real leather, we managed to stay close to the size & weight specifications of the authentic NBA game ball. With approximately 752 mm circumference (along the channels) and 595 grams (+/- 20g) THE PEARL offers similar measurements. But also THE PEARL is still complying with official FIBA size & weight regulations. Compared to real leather balls for 130-230$, the Pearl requires only a short break-in period. As the black silk printing on the logos embossings wears off and the balls surface gets a bit darker, the Kingstep microfiber cover becomes more soft and will develop a even smoother overall grip itself.

THE PEARL is designed as a smooth surface game ball. It can be used indoors and outdoors as long as the surface is not dirt or silted rough pavement. THE PEARL is designed for surfaces like smooth tarmac, tartan track, ruber courts, vinyl and all indoor surfaces. Actually, the only thing we do not recommend to do, is to play on rims with metal / chain nets. This increases abrasion and reduces durability. You are not destroying the ball by this, but the wear is increased on very rough surfaces and especially chain nets.

If you are using the ball outside, you should wash it every 3-4 sessions with a soft cloth and mild soap solution. This increases durability and restores its strong grip. Of course the same applies, when switching from outdoors to the gym.

Additionally THE PEARL uses our Kingstep Soft Cover Technology. This means the cloth under the microfiber cover is especially designed to achieve a soft surface feel for your fingertips. When light pressure is applied to the microfiber cover, e.g. when dribbling, the surface of the ball gives way slightly and our Kingstep microfiber leather molds itself around the touchpoints of your fingers and hands. This results in a larger area your fingertips and palms have direct contact with the 8 panels and this makes the ball easier to control overall.

THE PEARL is fitted around our Kingstep Core: a sponge-like core layer, which is soft but elastic at the same time. For the reaction time of the basketball on the ground, this is the decisive factor. By increasing the reaction time of THE PEARL on the ground for every bounce, the player has more time to recover and adjust the hands and bodystance for the rebound of each dribble. The additional time at each bounce makes every ballhandler and playmaker have more precise dribblings, but most important, this results in extended overall court vision and ball control. Low air pressure is recommended to enhance the reaction time a bit further. The golden metric is a bounce from the top of your forehead back up to your solar plexus.

To increase spin & air retention the Kingstep Core is rotationally optimally balanced. This results in a softer and more precise shot release on high arc shots. THE PEARL’s structural integrity in combination with its reduced weight lets players easily naturalize their shots from outside. More integer and lighter than average FIBA game balls, THE PEARL supports all shooters for extended range.

You really do not have to spend hundreds of dollars for a Pro-Level game ball. Whoever said, that a professional top segment basketball must be either expensive or it performs bad, THE PEARL is 100% counterproof for.

Common prices for top microfiber basketballs from large manufacturers like Wilson, Spalding, Molten or Nike range around 80-160$. THE PEARL is available for almost the half. This is possible because we have strong ties with our partners and also because our organisation is kept administratively lightweight. We just don't think that a bloated budget to maintain worldwide offices and marketing departments is an effective way to make a high quality product at a reasonable price. 

We simply focused on designing the possibly best smooth surface game ball of all time.

All the small details we have been paying attention to during development: The choice of high quality materials, performance of the Kingstep Core, the size, the weight, the bounce, the shooters range. Or for example that we would never - like some of the large brands do - print bar codes directly on the balls panels. They are just annoying to players and we can not think of one reason how it would increase performance.
